Discontent is growing following a perceive delay in the announcement of a substantive Vice Chancellor for Edo State-owned university – the Ambrose Ali University Ekpoma days after the selection process was concluded.

A group, Association of Concerned Edo State indigenes, says it fears that there could be some underground dealings going on in the appointment of a new helmsman for the institution close to one week after the selection process was done, leaving everyone concerned waiting with bated breath for the announcement to be made.

A release signed by the chairman and secretary of the body – Odion Aghayere and Monday Iyere respectively, expressed surprise that “more than one week after candidates for the position of substantive Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma (AAUE) were interviewed, the final outcome of the process has not been made known.

“Up and until today, a substantive Vice Chancellor for the University has not been appointed; this delay will give room for various forms of manipulations.”

Both men “advised the chairman of the Governing Council to stick to the process and conclude it as soon as possible.

“The Visitor should as a matter of urgency announce the successful candidate as substantive Vice Chancellor of Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma (AAUE) which institution has been governed on an interim basis for more than three years now.

“This is not healthy for the stability of the system. We are, therefore, calling on the Chairman of Governing Council to submit their shortlisted candidates’ names to His Excellency Governor Monday Okpebholo who is the Visitor to the University to make his final choice.”

The group warned that “any attempt to continue the present adhoc administrative arrangement will spell disaster for the institution.”
