Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation FMSTI, Adeleke Mamora has revealed that the recently launched Science Technology and Innovation Television, STItv, would start functioning before the end of the year.
The Minister said this in Abuja, during an interactive section with journalists on the activities and programmes of the ministry since his assumption of office in July 2022.
Mamora who commended the initiative, said the television station will be a veritable platform to inform, educate and entertain as well as publicise scientific discoveries, inventions and achievements of the various parastatals under the Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation for the benefit of the common man.
He said the vision of the station is to ensure the effective dissemination of information on scientific and technological innovations in the sector.
” This will be an avenue for us to tell our own story in our way, unadulterated and it is one of the things we seek to achieve , he said.
While highlighting out some of his achievements since his assumption of office in July 2022, Mamora said he has consistently promoted the joint top management meeting in the ministry together with the agencies under the supervision of the ministry.
The meeting, according to him, affords the top management staff the opportunity to discuss issues affecting the progress of the ministry and its parastatals as well as chart a way forward.
He said the ministry under his watch has continued to implement various policy documents such as the revised STI policy, National Science, Technology and Innovation Roadmap, and Methanol Technology Fuel Policy, among others.
As part of his numerous achievements, the minister said he had presented national policy on welding to the federal executive council which was approved, adding that its implementation would fast-track industrialisation and sustainable development.
The minister also gave highlight on the validation workshop on National Technology Action Plan on Technology Needs Assessment on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation held in October.
He spoke on the construction of science laboratory in local government Areas in Ebonyi, with ICT infrastructure provided which were necessary for promotion of STEM learning.
“The ministry, in collaboration with Imo and Oyo states empowered over 200 Nigerian youth in various low hanging fruits of bioresources in the country in Aug 2022,” Mamora said.
He said this created job opportunities and reduced youth restiveness across the country.
Furthermore, the minister also revealed that the ministry had a review of the Strategy Implementation Plan and goals execution plan on Methanol Fuel production Technology In Aug. 2022.
“Methanol Fuel is an alternative source of fuel which we are pursuing very vigorously,” he said.
He said another policy document 2022, was the registration and release of new varieties of crops and livestock breeds for private seed companies and public research institutions.
He spoke about the Revised Energy Policy and Related National Energy Master plan and constitution of the committee.
He maintained they were to further strengthen the linkages and interaction between the academia, industry and government in areas of research findings and development.
The minister said the ministry, in collaboration with the ECOWAS Commission recently hosted the African Forum on Research and Innovation FARI 2022, in October.
He said the forum provided an opportunity for researchers and innovators within the ECOWAS member states to synergise, exchange ideas on how to improve commercialization of research and development output.
However, the minister said that there were various achievements recorded by other agencies under the ministry during the period under review.
