Cristiano Ronaldo has sent a heartfelt message to Paris Saint-Germain forward Khvicha Kvaratskhelia following confirmation that the Georgian international has suffered a serious knee injury that could threaten the remainder of his season.
Kvaratskhelia sustained a tear to the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee during Paris Saint-Germain’s 4-2 victory over Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
PSG confirmed that the winger would undergo surgery in the coming days but did not provide a date for his return, leaving uncertainty over how long he will be sidelined.
Ronaldo, captain of Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr, offered words of encouragement to the injured forward in a comment on his Instagram post, drawing on his own experience of the physical and mental challenges that come with football injuries.
“The toughest battles in football are often the ones no one sees. I know that feeling, Kvara, but never forget what got you to where you are today, and don’t let a tough moment make you doubt how far you can go,” Ronaldo wrote.
The Portugal captain added: “Keep that spirit alive within you, as your best is still to come.”
Ronaldo’s message comes as Kvaratskhelia prepares for surgery and what could be a lengthy period of rehabilitation before returning to competitive football.
An ACL tear is a significant injury that can require several months of recovery, depending on its severity, the treatment received and the player’s progress through rehabilitation.
PSG are yet to announce a specific recovery timeline for the 25-year-old, leaving supporters waiting for further updates on his condition and prospects of returning before the end of the season.
