The management and staff of Starfield College, Iju, Lagos recently rolled out the drums to celebrate the outstanding performance of its students in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and the May/June 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
The students were celebrated at the 23rd graduation ceremony of Starfield College, which attracted many parents and some alumni of the 23-year-old school.
A breakdown of the students’ performance in WASSCE showed that four students obtained 8As, namely Oyinloye Ojonugwa, Ndukife Obiora, Ntia Oghenevoke and Alabi Oluwatobiloba.
Another four students, who got 7As in the school exam, are Udeigwe-Anowai Chinenye, Babafemi-Dada Hannah, Omolade Perpetual and Ade-Idowu Adetoro.
In the UTME Tinuoye Brielle scored 313, best in English, joint best in Physics, director’s award and emerged the valedictoria, Udeigwe-Anowai Chinenye 296 and best in Mathematics, John Odiekachukwu 310 and best in Chemistry, Alabi Oluwatobiloba 306 and joint best in Physics, Omolade Perpetual 305, Olajumoke Kolade 300, Atoyebi Victoria 299, Fatoye Raphael 298, Babafemi-Dada Hannah 296, Udeigwe-Anowai Chinenye 296 and Ndukife Obiora 293.
Addressing the 84 graduating students, the Director of Studies, Mr. Chris Eigbe, reminded them to use the potentials in them to achieve success and make a positive impact on the society.
Eigbe congratulated the graduands for their outstanding performance in WASSCE and UTME, adding, “may your future be filled with endless possibilities, exciting adventures and boundless success.”
He charged them to continue to shine brightly in their next endeavour and also to remain worthy ambassadors of the college.
The director of studies showered encomium on the teachers for the performance of the students in the two major public examinations.
Eigbe commended the parents for investing in the children and support extended to the college management.
The Principal of the college, Mrs. Sara Oyinloye, said the students displayed an unwavering commitment to excellence, dedication to learning, and spirit resilience.
Said she: “Our students’ performance in external examinations have been outstanding. We got 100% pass rate. Among them we have 8As, 7As, 6As, 5As. It was a good outing. In UTME, we have students, who scored 313, 310, 306, 305, 300 and other top scorers.
“Our dear parents, our vision is to be the best, so striving for excellence continues. We are not relenting.”
Oyinloye reminded the students that they have been trained to be the best among their peers and that the college old students have graduated from notable universities with First Class honours.
The principal tasked the students to embrace technology but warned them to be careful with the social media, stressing, “remember whatever you post can be used against you and this can disrupt your dream.”
Some of the students shared their six years journey and academic success in WASSCE and UTME.
Tinuoye, wants to study Medicine and Surgery at University of Lagos told Daily Sun that she worked hard to attain the good result and showered encomium on her teachers.
The 16-year-old Kwara State whizkid said she also emerged the overall best in Starfield Primary School said she reads in the evening to avoid distractions.
“The standard of education in Starfield College is high. The college provided counseling support for students before the two examinations. I got 6As and 3B2 in WASSCE,” she explained.
Udeigwe-Anowai, who wants to read Medicine and Surgery gave credit to God and the college management and her teachers for the performance attained.
Alabi, who intends to study Software Engineering at Babcock University, said he had a home tutor and read after school hours, stating, “I was aiming for straight As and 320 in UTME.”
Oyinloye commended his teachers for guiding them to success in WASSCE and UTME, adding, in the UTME, I took online subjects to practice and targeted areas that I am good at.”
Ntia, who intends to study Mechatronics Engineering at Pan African University, said she used past questions and consulted her teachers for assistance in areas she didn’t understand.
She stated: “I was expecting higher score in the UTME. In WASSCE, I was expecting 5As but I got above my expectation. I will recommend to parents to bring their wards to the college.”
