To deepen insurance penetration and reshape public perception of the industry, the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), in collaboration with the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) and other key players in the insurance value chain, is set to embark on a nationwide sensitisation campaign across major Nigerian cities including Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, Port Harcourt and Kano.

Supported by the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM), the industry’s regulatory authority, the week-long outreach aims to engage stakeholders across the formal and informal sectors, as well as micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), and educational institutions. The initiative, themed “Insurance for All: Securing Nigeria’s Future,” seeks to bridge the knowledge gap and reposition insurance as a vital tool for financial protection and national development.

CIIN President and Chairman of Council, Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, described the campaign as a mission-driven effort to transform insurance awareness in Nigeria. She reiterated her administration’s commitment to her four-point EPIC agenda—Education, Professionalism, Institutional Recognition, and Capacity Building—emphasising that the insurance industry must come together to rewrite the narrative and build lasting trust with the public.

“The Insurance Week is an initiative of the Institute designed to promote insurance awareness, stakeholder engagement and industry collaboration. It is going to be a week-long event that will feature various activities geared towards enhancing the visibility of the insurance industry, educating the public on the benefits of insurance, and fostering professional growth within the sector,” she said.

Ilori further noted that the campaign would mark a new chapter for the sector: “The week-long event will be the beginning of another positive turning point for the insurance industry in the country, as all the lined-out activities have been planned to create an enduring and lasting memory in the minds of the insuring public, the practitioners of the business and the general public at large. We urge everyone to join us, and we believe we shall achieve our set objectives.”

Echoing this enthusiasm, Mr. Segun Bankole, Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Managers of Nigerian Insurance Association (CAMCONIA), called on communication professionals within the insurance industry to take ownership of the campaign through their respective companies.

Bankole stressed the need for industry-wide visibility and participation: “The Insurance Week is a pivotal platform for the insurance industry in Nigeria to showcase the importance of insurance to the everyday life of every Nigerian wherever they are located. It is an opportunity to flaunt their brands in a very unique, competitive and cooperative manner while engendering the growth of the insurance industry in the country and possibly, beyond.”

Also speaking, Chairman of the Organising Committee and former CIIN President, Mr. Eddie Efekoha, praised the planning efforts and expressed optimism that the initiative would drive meaningful engagement with Nigerians, spark interest in insurance, and ultimately boost patronage across the sector.

“A lot of work has gone into the planning of the programme, and everyone involved is looking forward to having an event that will create the needed engagement and stimulate patronage for the insurance industry in the days ahead,” Efekoha stated.

With momentum building and the industry uniting behind a common goal, stakeholders are hopeful that the Insurance Week will not only raise awareness but also reinforce insurance as a cornerstone of financial security for all Nigerians.
