Stakeholders at the 10th edition of the West Africa Clean Energy and Environment, (WACEE), 2022, Trade Fair and Conference in Lagos have recommended partnership to strengthen investment on clean technologies, waste management and environmental pollution.
They called on public and private sectors to energise in order to tackle the menace of climate change rocking Nigeria, especially flooding.
The three-day event with the theme: ‘Catalysing Sustainable Investment’ attracted leading inventors, service providers, manufacturers, suppliers, distributors and industry experts in the clean energy, water and circular economy industries.
The delegate of German Industry and Commerce in Nigeria, Katharina Felgenhauer,said to improve the Nigeria’s industrial energy performance through programmatic approaches and promotion of innovation in clean technology solutions, Nigeria should prohibit the burying of refuse at land fills and that whatever is not recycled should be incinerated to generate energy.
She said Nigeria was experiencing challenges from the impact of climate change, like ongoing flooding saying clean technology should be embraced to reduce waste and contribute to climate change. German Consul General in Lagos, Weert Börner, said the event offered a unique opportunity to match environment friendly technologies with West African entrepreneurs. He tasked Africa to invest in green and sustainable energy, He noted that climate change, which is a global issue, requires international collaboration and technological solutions.
Lagos Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Olatunji Bello said the conference was an eye opener, as participants have been exposed to new ideas to adapt for waste management.
He said there have been government efforts to solve the challenge of waste management in the state, “despite the hurdles we would continue to look for other innovative measures that can promote sustainable development and ensure a friendly use of our environment.”
