Stage set for Run For Asiwaju 2027 Mini Marathon

The Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area is primed for an unprecedented sporting spectacle as the Run For Asiwaju 2027 Mini Marathon is scheduled for January 25.

In a media session with sports journalists at the Orile-Agege Secretariat, Hon. Akinola Idowu confidently declared that the Asiwaju 2027 Mini Marathon will achieve its ambitious objectives.

“Over 1,000 residents from Agege will participate in the 4.6km mini marathon, starting from the Agege Local Government and culminating at Orile-Agege.

“We are harnessing the Asiwaju 2027 Mini Marathon to galvanise support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

“The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has endorsed the Asiwaju 2027 Mini Marathon and will be among the distinguished VIPs participating in the race.

“This event will serve as an exceptional platform for networking, featuring five to seven categories of runners. We are committed to enhancing the experience as we have set aside ₦2.3 million in prizes. The first 200 finishers will each receive ₦10,000, while seven elite athletes will be awarded ₦50,000 each.”

The Chairman of the Orile-Agege Sport Committee, Mr Dipo Liadi, outlined the stringent criteria for the Asiwaju 2027 Mini Marathon.

“We are committed to hosting this event three times this year. Our goal is to mobilise Nigerians, foster unity among residents irrespective of class or status, and promote fitness and health.

“This is also a platform for talent discovery, bringing emerging talents into the spotlight.

“We will feature various categories, including Youth, Special (for persons with disabilities), VIP, Professional, Elderly, and representation from the Hausa and Igbo communities. Our aim is to create a diverse assembly of runners, with winners emerging from every category.

Renowned hip-hop musician Temitope Adekunle, famously known as Small Doctor, will be participating, alongside other notable VIPs who have signed up.

“More than 1,000 kits will be distributed to the runners, who will commence the race from six or seven different starting points.

“To ensure a secure environment, 100 law enforcement agents and 50 Protocol Officers from the Orile-Agege LCDA will be on duty, while the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) will facilitate smooth traffic flow on the day of the event.
