Members of Stanza 789 set of the Old Boys’ Association of  St Charles Grammar  School, Osogbo,Osun State says they plan to raise about 40million for the renovation of dilapidated school buildings and other facilities that would make learning attractive even as they prepare to celebrate the 40th anniversary of their graduation from the school.

The association called on corporate organisations and Nigerians to support their plan to improve the quality of education of the current students in the school. 

The old students made the appeal recently at a media briefing in Lagos. Chairman of the fundraising committee, Mr Olaseinde Olusola said they have been contributing their quota to the national body.

Olusola explained that the initial plan was to celebrate their 40years anniversary but they discovered that the roofing sheets, windows of the school needs to be changed to modern ones as well as do the necessary masonry work and repaint both the interior and exterior walls of the school structures.

The Lagos chairman of the old boys revealed that they paid a visit to their Alma mater and discovered it was in a bad state and this prompted their decision to swing into action to find solution and give back to the society.

He reel out some of the activities lined up for the anniversary which include presentation of award to old and some current teachers, award of scholarship to indigent students and payment of WASSEC fee for 50 final year students.

The co-chairman, Mr. Sina Morenigbade said their plan is to boost the academic standard by renovating and refurbishing the school facilities with modern ones which runs into millions. 

He said: “Our students yearly participate in various examinations such as, the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB); yet, the school is unable to provide conducive environment to help our students excel in their studies.

“The school requires ICT support centre to enhance e-learning in the school. The ICT centre will greatly assist the students to carry out online registration of the various examinations.
