The National Examination Council (NECO) has announced that 1,376,391 candidates registered for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) Internal.
NECO spokesperson, Azeez Sani, said in a statement on Wednesday that the NECO Registrar, Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed this information after monitoring the ongoing examination at various centres in Enugu.
He stated that the 2024 NECO SSCE, which began on 19th June and is scheduled to end on 25th July 2024, covers 76 subjects.
Sani added that Professor Wushishi expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the examination, noting that reports from across the country indicated a smooth process.

“Since the commencement of the examination, the NECO Registrar, alongside other officials, has monitored the exercise in Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Abia, Imo, and Anambra states to assess the conduct of the examination firsthand,” Sani explained.
“In all the states visited, key stakeholders commended NECO for implementing measures that contributed to the seamless conduct of the 2024 SSCE.”
He highlighted that the examination is also being held in Togo, Benin Republic, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Niger Republic, Côte d’Ivoire, and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. “The extension of NECO examinations to other countries demonstrates the global recognition of NECO certificates,” he said.
Sani attributed the examination’s success to the various measures implemented to ensure a smooth process. He added that examination malpractice is declining due to NECO’s innovative approaches.
