The Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Lagos State University (LASU) branch will on Monday embark on strike to press home the implementation of the 2026 SSANU/ FGN signed agreement.
The decision for the SSANU LASU branch to start the industrial action today was approved by the National Executive Council (NEC).
The letter of approval for the strike dated October 1st, 2026, was signed by the General Secretary of SSANU, Comrade Kabiru Duhu , and was addressed to the branch chairman.
The approval reads:”The National Executive Council at its 56th meeting held at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on September 30th and October 1, 2026 received a report over the clear defiance by the Lagos State Government in refusing to implement the 2026 SSANU/FGN agreement of 35 per cent of CONTISS as Consolidated Non-Teaching Tools Allowance (CONTTA) and other components of Earned Allowances as captured in the agreement.”
The NEC confirmed that an ultimatum was issued to the Lagos State Government by the state Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Lagos State owned universities to implement the agreement.
According to the letter, the ultimatum lapsed on Friday, October 2, 2026 and NEC approved an indefinite strike from Monday October 5, 2026 to press home the implementation of the 2026 SSANU/FGN agreement.
The meeting further directed for a total compliance in executing the strike.
“You are to in the course of the action constantly update the National Vice President of the Zone with happenings in the course of the struggle,” it stated.
Recall that academic activities in LASU was crippled two weeks ago after the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) embarked on strike based on same issue.
