The Nigeria Sports Coaches Association is set to partner with the Niger Delta Development Commission in the development of coaches from different sports within the country.
According to the President of the association, Gabriel Opuana, due to a lack of proper training and constant developmental courses, the coaches have not really improved their knowledge, and that has been affecting their output.
“The truth is, there is a need to help out coaches to improve their knowledge of their various sports,” the US-based coach said.
“Sports keep getting scientific each day, and if you are not doing the needful, you won’t be able to get the latest updates about your sport as a coach.
“Getting some of these training and certification costs a lot, and how much are our coaches getting? So there is a need to get support from several corporate bodies to help them to go for training within and outside the country.
“At the moment, we are finding a way to collaborate with the NDDC after seeing what they have been able to achieve with the maiden Niger Delta Sports Festival. The festival was one of the best things to happen to athletes within the region, and we hope they can come on board to support the coaches, too.”
Opuana applauded NDDC for the success of staging the festival while also commending them for accommodating the coaches while also taking good care of them.
He, however, said they are looking at chances of sending some of the coaches to places like Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America where they can learn the modern day of coaching.
