African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, has regained his freedom from the Kuje Correctional Centre after meeting the bail conditions set by the Federal High Court in Abuja in his ongoing cybercrime and criminal defamation trial.
Announcing his release in a post on X on Tuesday, Sowore described his detention as unjust and insisted it had only strengthened his determination to continue opposing the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
“Leaving Kuje Prison after being unjustly incarcerated by the failed traitor to the Nigerian people, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and his regime,” he wrote.
The activist maintained that his time in custody would not weaken his resolve, declaring that he remained committed to his campaign for justice.
“Prison has never broken the resolve of those who fight for justice. If anything, it only strengthens our determination. The struggle continues. We will never surrender,” Sowore added.

His release followed a ruling by the Federal High Court granting him bail in the sum of N200 million with two sureties.
As part of the bail conditions, the court directed that one surety must be a traditional ruler from Sowore’s community in Ese-Odo Local Government Area of Ondo State, while the second must own landed property within the Federal Capital Territory.
Justice Umar Mohammed also ordered the former presidential candidate to surrender his international passport to the deputy registrar of the court, while the prosecution is expected to verify the sureties before the bail takes effect.
Sowore had been remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre after the court revoked the self-recognition bail earlier granted to him over his failure to appear for trial and subsequently issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
The Department of State Services (DSS) is prosecuting him on charges bordering on alleged cybercrime and criminal defamation arising from social media posts in which he described President Bola Tinubu as a “criminal.”
The trial has been adjourned until July 6, 2026, for the continuation of proceedings.
