The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore, has criticised the reception held for President Bola Tinubu following his return to Nigeria after about a month abroad.
Sowore made the comment in a post on X, alongside a video showing Tinubu being welcomed at the airport.
He alleged that Nigeria had repeatedly been used as “health insurance” for presidents he described as “sickly and worn-out.”
Sowore also referenced the administrations of former Presidents Umaru Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari, alleging that similar situations had occurred under those governments and were now being repeated under Tinubu.
“We’ve been here before: Nigeria is repeatedly used as health insurance for sickly and worn-out presidents, who are then packaged and presented to the public in staged airport ceremonies while the same failed performances are repeated and the country is further destroyed,” Sowore wrote.
“The same actors during the Umaru Yar’Adua and Muhammadu Buhari administrations and now Tinubu,” he added.
Sowore also criticised those behind the reception, saying they expected Nigerians to move on without questioning the situation.
“No shame, no regrets and they want you to move on as though nothing is wrong,” he wrote.
