SON lists 125 standards approved for operations

The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has mentioned 125 standards approved by the Honourable Minister for Industry Trade and Investments Mrs Doris Nkiruka Uzoka-Anite as part of their achievements .

The Director General of Standard Organisation of Nigeria Dr Ifeanyi Okeke who outlined achievements of the organisation during a presentation in Uyo at the 2024 leadership retreat for management staff explained that 125 standards have been developed and approved by the minister for their operations .
Okeke disclosed that 86 of this standards are for Compressed Natural Gas ( CNG) operations .

” 86 of these standards are for Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) operations which the organisation worked together with the presidential Initiative for compressed (PiCNG) in the development of petroleum sector ”

He said the Compressed Natural Gas standard was in line with President Bola Tinubu’s promise under the “Renewed Hope Agenda”
to provide alternative fuel and cushion effects of fuel subsidy removal and full deregulation of the petroleum sector .

“The Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) provides a more cheaper ,cleaner and environmental friendly alternative fuel utilization across Nigeria ”

According to the Director General , other achievements include establishment of sectoral units, standardization of tourism and hospitality sectors , strengthening compliance and regulatory enforcement, SON laboratory capacity and supporting micro , small and medium scale enterprises among others .

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Industry,Trade and Investment Mrs Nura Abba Rimi who delivered her keynote address charged
the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to ensure excellence service delivery in all standardization.

Rimi, who was represented by Dr Anietie Umoessien, Director, Industrial Inspectorate Department reminded participants at the retreat that SON plays critical role in protecting the interests of consumers, stressing that they must strive for excellence in all activities.

Rimi said the theme for the retreat “Effectiveness, and Revenue Enhancement for a Renewed Future”was apt as it marks a significant milestone in the collective journey towards advancing the standards terrain in Nigeria.

“As we converge under the guiding theme of “SON – Service optimization, greater effectiveness and revenue enhancement for a renewed future.

“We are reminded of the critical roles the Standards Organisation of Nigeria plays in protecting the interests of consumers, promoting industrial growth, revenue generation and enhancing Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global marketplace. ”

She urged SON management to foster the culture of collaboration, creativity to unlock the full potential expected of the organisation to enhance economic growth and development of the nation.
