Soludo urged to fix Umueri road for easy access to Chinua Achebe airport

Anambra Governor Charles Soludo has been urged to fix the Umueri road to enable travellers to access the Chinua Achebe International Airport in the state.

The appeal was made by the former President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Malaysia Chapter (2013 – 2017), Ikemba Buchi Diboh, in an open letter to the governor yesterday.

The letter read in part: “The establishment of the Chinua Achebe Airport is a significant milestone for Anambra State, promising to enhance connectivity, boost tourism, and stimulate economic growth. However, the absence of a direct and accessible road for the host community, Umueri, and other towns in Omambala (particularly the communities in Anambra East, Anambra West, and Ayamelum) to reach this vital infrastructure undermines the very benefits that the airport is intended to provide.

“Your Excellency, as you are aware, the Umueri community has made considerable sacrifices for the success of the airport project, and it is only fair that the town is afforded the opportunity to access it conveniently. A situation whereby an Umueri resident, on whose soil the airport is located, would be forced to criss-cross two communities to visit the place is counterproductive.

“The current situation not only hampers the ability to utilise the airport but also limits the potential economic opportunities that could arise from its proximity.

“It is my belief that a well-constructed link road from the community would serve multiple purposes.”
