Anambra State Governor Prof Chukwuma Soludo has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP) his administration is implementing in the state.
NSIP was created by President Buhari to “address the socio-economic challenges bedevilling the country”, with the main being “to lift poor people out of poverty on a sustained and continuous basis.”
The governor, at an event held at the Njikoka Local Government headquarters in Abagana to thank Buhari for the programme which some people benefited from, said that NSIP was good as it has helped to ameliorate the plight of the poor people across the country.
Soludo, who spoke through his Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Chiamaka Nnakee, said that the state had been a beneficiary of the cash transfer aspect of the programme since 2016.
According to the governor, the poorest and the most vulnerable households receive a monthly cash transfer of N5,000 to improve their means of livelihood.
The governor explained that three signature schemes namely: TraderMoni, FarmerMoni and MarketMoni loans were NSIP programmes targeted at uplifting the underprivileged and marginalised people.
“And so far so good, about 1,000 schools and 15,0000 students have benefited from the Home Grown School Feeding Programmes, 15,000 youths for the Cash Grant Loans and over 100 others for TraderMoni, FarmerMoni and MarketMoni loans since the commencement of the programme in the state in 2016”, he said.
He further stated that through the N-Power programme, Nigerians between the ages of 18-35 were entitled to receive a monthly stipend of N30,000 implemented as a voluntary programme of two years initially, but now a one-year scheme.
He explained that the three loan schemes of GEEP which are Trader Moni, Market Moni and Farmer Moni were created to give access to credit to poor and vulnerable Nigerians.
He emphasised that the event was to thank the president and appreciate him for his magnanimity and therefore urged the people to take advantage of the programme while it lasts.
The Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka LGA, Mr Clem Aguiyi, in a remark, encouraged the people to always key into all the intervention programmes of the Federal Government and harvest all the available benefits from such programmes.
The Special Adviser to the Governor on the Partnership, Mrs Ogochukwu Orji, thanked the government for providing such programmes to alleviate the problems of the poor and the vulnerable in society.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs Ijeoma Ojukwu, thanked the government for initiating such programmes targeted at helping the poor and the vulnerable in the country.
