The Anambra state government has disclosed plans to build a rehabilitation centre at Nibo, Awka, to address the state’s mental health issues.
The Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, revealed this in a statement on Tuesday as part of resolutions of the 12th State Executive Council (ANSEC) meeting held at the Light House, Awka.
He said the centre would allow those who leave the state’s asylums to access rehabilitation facilities that provide all the services they need to fully heal before returning to their families and communities.
Mefor also said the Council has fixed Saturday, June 28, 2025, as the day for the official opening of the Solution Fun City to the public.
He said the foremost Anambra State-born Nigerian music icon, Chinedu Okoli, popularly known as ‘Flavour N’abania’ or simply Flavour, will lead a band of other notable musicians such as Umu Obiligbo and others to the grand fiesta.
The statement reads in part: ‘The Council further reflected on the proposed Anambra Rebirth Programme and determined that the programme’s blueprint should address a number of important issues to achieve its main objectives.
‘Among the programmes were the restoration of the Igbo Apprenticeship system (Igba Boi).
‘The rebirth programme also aims to achieve the return of hard work and integrity, the criminalisation of obscenities, especially the flaunting of money, and warped ideologies of wealth without work.’
He disclosed various new contracts and payments approved, which included the construction and modelling of the State Rehabilitation Centre at Nibo, Awka Capital Territory, and the relocation and expansion of the Solution Hub & Park at Aroma Junction, Awka, among others.
