An exchange of gunfire has been reported as ongoing between soldiers of the Nigerian Army and unidentified hoodlums, along the Umuojima/Tonimas/Umuode axis of the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway, in Aba.
Unconfirmed reports from the area, Daily Sun gathered, said some persons have been wounded in the crossfire, which seemed to have taken people around the area by surprise.
According to reliable sources, the Osisioma end of the road, had been cordoned off by the soldiers whose base is close by, while people living in their were advised to stay in their homes with those passing by, urged to be wary of their movements.
As of the time of this report, no group has claimed responsibility nor adduced any reason for the early Monday morning attack.
On its part, the state police authorities are yet to comment on the incident, which is now becoming a regular occurrence in the commercial city, since the May 30, killing of five soldiers at the Obikabia military checkpoint by yet-to-be-identified bandits.
