From Shafa’atu Suleiman, Sokoto
The Executive Chairman of Tangaza Local Government Area in Sokoto State, Hon. Isa Salihu Bashir, has resigned from office and announced his resignation from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a letter dated July 7, 2026, and addressed to the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government through the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bashir said his resignation takes immediate effect.
He explained that the decision followed extensive consultations with his family, key political associates and community stakeholders.
According to the former chairman, recent administrative challenges had made it impossible for him to continue serving in the capacity expected of him.
“This difficult decision has been reached after extensive consultations with my family, key political associates and community stakeholders. Due to recent unavoidable administrative challenges, I find that I am no longer able to execute the responsibilities of this office to the high standard expected of me,” the letter read.
He expressed gratitude to the electorate, the council’s legislative arm and members of staff for the opportunity to serve, while wishing the incoming leadership success in managing the affairs of the local government.
The resignation comes weeks after Bashir formally resigned from the APC.
In a separate letter dated May 05, 2026, addressed to the APC Ward Chairman of Kalanjeni Ward in Tangaza Local Government Area, he announced his decision to quit the ruling party with immediate effect.
He attributed his resignation from the APC to “purely personal reasons” and thanked the party for the opportunity to be a member.
Neither of the resignation letters indicated his next political move or whether he intends to join another political party.
