Governor Ahmed Aliyu has flagged off the distribution of essential drugs and Mama kits to 244 Primary Health Centres (PHCs) across the 23 local government areas.

The distribution was aimed at improving healthcare service delivery, especially at the grassroots level.

The drugs distributed include essential drugs, antihelminthic and haematinic drugs, under-5 children’s drugs, mothers’ and children’s drugs, misoprostol and chlorhexidine gel, and Mama delivery kits.

The governor noted that these drugs were purchased based on requests from the local government councils to sustain the free healthcare delivery in rural areas.

“This program will encourage rural women to attend antenatal care, reducing maternal mortality and child morbidity in the state,” he said.

The governor said the programme is to sustain the free medical care programme introduced by the former state governor, Sen. Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, where pregnant mothers, their children, and the aged receive free medical services.

He warned local government chairmen and other personnel against diverting the drugs, emphasising that the government would take decisive action against any act of sabotage.

He also directed the Ministry for Local Government and the Primary Health Care Development Agency to ensure that no drugs were diverted.
