The management of Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, has denied the purported abduction of 18 students of the institution travelling to Oyo State.
In a Monday statement signed by its Registrar, Bello Abdulrahman, the college described the reported abduction of its students by suspected terrorists as “false and misleading”.
Earlier on Monday, an online media platform reported that 18 students of the college were abducted while travelling to Oyo and the vehicle driver was shot dead.
However, Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto dismissed the report and insisted that none of its students was abducted.
“The College wishes to categorically state that the said report is FALSE, MISLEADING and does not reflect the true situation,” the institution stated.
It emphasised that “no student of Gamji College of Health Technology, Sokoto, was kidnapped, and there was no such incident involving our students.”
The management stated that all the students were safe and had arrived at their respective destinations.
It urged parents, guardians and members of the public to disregard the report and refrain from further circulating it.
“We urge the general public, parents, guardians and all stakeholders to disregard the fake news and avoid sharing it further,” the statement said.
The management further assured students, parents and other stakeholders of its commitment to their safety and welfare, adding that it would continue to work with relevant security agencies to maintain a safe environment for learning and training.
