House of Representatives Committee on Small and Medium Enterprises ( SMEs) led by its chairman, Mansur Manu Soro, has met with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of Finance, Wale Edun, over the presidential grants to SMEs.

The committee, at the parley, which was in furtherance of its resolve to ensure timely implementation of the small and medium enterprises component of the presidential palliative grants and loans, sought to ascertain the extent of funding and releases made to implementing Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs).

A statement to the Personal Assistant, to the chairman, on New Media, Aleeyu Darazo, indicated that the committee had previously met with other officials including the Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Mrs Doris Anite, Accountant General of the Federation and DG/CEO of SMEDAN, Mr. Charles Odii in this regard.

It noted that the leadership of the 10th House under Tajudden Abass, places high premium on SME development, hence its decision to create a standing committee on SME to ensure effective oversight of the SME activities and programs of line MDAs

Recall that President Bola Tinubu had given a directive for the implementation of palliatives to cushion the effects of the removal of petrol subsidy across the agricultural, transportation, social safety and SME sectors of the economy in July 2023 .

Subsequently, the House in a resolution mandated its committee on SME to interface with officials of government responsible to ensure timely and effective implementation of the palliative. The presidential palliative grants and loans is due for disbursements soon.
