Kano State Disbursement Committee on Singer Market Fire incident has estimated the size of the property lost to the fire outbreak at over N20 billion.

Umar Faruk, Chairman of the Committee and Secretary to the State Government, disclosed this at the weekend shortly after his Committee paid a visit to the Market to assrsss the extent of the damage

He described the damage as monumental and urged Nigerians to rally round the traders to cushioning the impacts of their loss.

He recalled that the Federal Government had donated N5 billion, while the APC Progressives Governors Forum had donated N3 billion to the traders, but maintained that from their assessment, the challenges were still overwhelming and well beyond the funds recieved

“We are appealing to Nigerians to come to the aid of these traders. We assure them that whatever Kobo they donate will reach the victims.

“And we assure the good people of Kano State that we will render account in details, every Kobo received in aid of the victims of the unfortunate fire incident.

He warned that the Committee would not condone dishonesty on the part of the affected traders during the disbursement of donations received.

“Anybody who thinks he can use any trick to falsify a claim, the least he would suffer is to forego any support that would go to him,and the worst would be to go to prison while reminding the traders that the EFCC and the DSS were represented in their Committee.
