For 18 years, corporate lawyer and philanthropist, Dr. Siju Iluyomade has maintained her reputation as one of Nigeria’s most compelling champions of social justice, skill acquisition, and economic empowerment of women. The Convener of Arise Women has turned compassion into infrastructure, and vision into impact. Through her Arise Women Foundation, she has rewritten the story of countless women who once lived on the fragile edges of possibility.
In keeping with the tradition, Iluyomade hosted another edition of the ARISE Women’s Conference — a two-day annual humanitarian event — which ended on a high note at the Grand Ballroom of the Lagos Oriental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos. Themed: ‘Impact – Monumental, Unstoppable, Transformational’, the charity gig brought together first ladies, top corporate executives, prominent Nigerian women and notable personalities to discuss female empowerment, human uplift and sustainable community development. As usual, thousands of women, all adorned in the signature ARISE Ankara, filled the ballroom for a day of high-powered keynote speeches, networking and soul-lifting gospel music.
Top speakers included Prof.Rufus Ojewola, a prostate health expert from the University of Lagos; Dr Annette Akinsette, National Director of the Sickle Cell Centre; Flutterwave co-founder, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji; and Nigerian Bar Association, NBA President, Oyinkansola Badejo-Okunsanya. The atmosphere was charged with electrifying performances from gospel stars Alaseyori, Tosin Alao and Dare Justified.
In keeping with tradition, thousands of less-privileged women left the venue with the signature Arise Pink Bucket containing foodstuffs and household essentials. The conference was preceded by the popular ARISE Walk for Life on Saturday, October 31, which saw participants walk across the Lekki-Ikoyi Link Bridge and other parts of Victoria Island to promote fitness, wellness and preventive healthcare.
