From Aniekan Aniekan, Calabar
The Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, has urged graduates to demonstrate wisdom through character rather than flaunting academic titles.
Speaking at the institution’s 38th convocation ceremony held at the Abraham Ordia Stadium, Bayero stressed that true knowledge is reflected in humility, restraint, and respect for others.
“Some acquire impressive degrees, yet when they speak, it becomes clear the knowledge they carry is only a burden. True learning reveals itself quietly through grace and conduct,” he said
He warned against arrogance, noting that the truly educated do not display anger, bitterness, or achievements for validation but serve with dignity.

Bayero encouraged graduates to ensure their education enhances their character rather than diminishes it.
“Let your knowledge illuminate, not intimidate. Let your speech reflect wisdom, not noise,” he advised.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Offiong Efanga, described the convocation as a milestone and a reaffirmation of the university’s commitment to scholarship and excellence.
He disclosed that 743 students earned Master’s degrees, 9,173 obtained first degrees, and 152 received diplomas, with 52 graduating with First Class honours.
Efanga added that top-performing graduates would be absorbed to fill critical roles within the institution.
