The First Lady of Lagos State, Claudiana Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, has called on young boys across the state to shun cybercrime and embrace discipline, integrity, and positive values as foundations for a successful future.

She made the appeal during the Lagos Boy Child Initiative (LBCI) Residential Workshop themed “Re-Orientating the Boy Child to Become an Ambassador,” held at St. Gregory’s College.

Addressing participants, Sanwo-Olu stressed that in an era dominated by digital influence and social media exposure, boys must cultivate strong moral values, emotional intelligence, and a clear sense of responsibility.

According to her, true leadership begins with integrity and the courage to make the right decisions, even under pressure.

She noted that the increasing exposure of young people to digital platforms has heightened the need for proper moral guidance and mentorship, warning that many boys fall into crime due to peer pressure, poor orientation, and the lure of quick money.

Sanwo-Olu described the residential workshop as a strategic platform designed to equip boys with practical skills, mentorship, and exposure to opportunities that will shape their future. She explained that sessions on leadership, career guidance, mental well-being, civic responsibility, and the productive use of social media were carefully structured to nurture socially responsible and morally upright young men.

“Today marks another significant step in our collective effort to raise a generation of well-rounded young men boys who are not only academically sound but also morally upright, socially responsible, and emotionally stable to face the challenges of the future,” she said, expressing satisfaction with the calibre of resource persons engaged for the programme.

The First Lady, however, lamented that over the years, the boy child has received inadequate attention and guidance compared to sustained advocacy for the girl child. While reaffirming the importance of empowering girls, she emphasized the need for balanced mentorship and support to ensure boys are not neglected.

“It has become increasingly necessary to ensure that the boy child is not left behind,” she added.

In her remarks, the Wife of the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Oluremi Hamzat, described the initiative as a timely and strategic intervention aimed at grooming boys into responsible, confident, and purposeful individuals.

She urged the participants to see themselves as future leaders, innovators, and change-makers, encouraging them to pursue academic excellence, respect their parents and teachers, and uphold virtues that would make them worthy ambassadors of their families, communities, and the nation.

Hamzat advised the boys to approach the workshop with open minds and willing hearts, noting that it offers a unique opportunity for personal growth and self-discovery.
