Shettima signs N144.7bn budget in Borno

Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State has signed into law the N144.7 billion Appropriation Bill approved by the state House of Assembly as the 2019 budget.

Shettima, while signing the appropriation and financial bill into law, his last budget signing, yesterday, at the Maiduguri Government House, commended the legislature for the speedy passage of the bill he presented on December 24, 2018.

“We are glad the budget was expeditiously passed by the House and I appeal to you to extend same gesture of support to the incoming administration by God’s grace,” he said in what appeared like a valedictory speech, being his last budget signing exercise.

He noted that the legislators could have been hostile to the Executive, as it happened in other states of the federation, where the house threatened to impeach some governors. He said he understood that some of the legislators were independent minded, but decided to subsume their political and personal differences for the good of the state. He, therefore, thanked them for their unity and support.

He also asked all executive members and legislators to return to their constituencies to campaign for the re-election of President Muhammadu Buhari and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in the coming elections.
