Shettima leads governors to Benin Republic to study textile park, seek new investment paths for Nigeria’s industry

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Thursday departed for a high-level working visit to the Republic of Benin, leading a delegation of state governors and senior federal officials to the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ) near Cotonou in a bid to rekindle and modernise Nigeria’s textile industry.

The visit, announced in a State House press release signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications (Office of the Vice President), Stanley Nkwocha, is intended to strengthen Nigeria’s Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zones (SAPZ) programme by drawing lessons from Benin’s model for agricultural value addition, industrial infrastructure, investment mobilisation, skills development and export-driven production.

“The GDIZ textile park operates an integrated production system that spans cotton spinning, weaving, fabric processing and garment manufacturing,” the release said, noting that the industrial zone covers about 1,640 hectares and is designed to move commodities from raw material supply through processing to the export of finished products.
