Vice President Kashim Shettima arrived in Freetown on Sunday to represent President Bola Tinubu, at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
Shettima landed at Lungi International Airport and was received by Sierra Leone’s Vice President, Mohamed Jalloh, together with senior Nigerian and regional officials. Among those who welcomed him were Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu; the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Sola Enikanolaiye; and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Sierra Leone, Ayo Luther-Ogbomode.

Also on hand were the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo; Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to ECOWAS, Olawale Awe; and other officials from the Nigerian High Commission in Freetown.
The Vice President is scheduled to join heads of state and government, ministers, senior officials, regional institutions, and business leaders at the summit being held today, July 19, 2026, at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre.
According to a statement by his media aide Stanley Nkwocha, delegates will deliberate on key policy decisions and strategic resolutions aimed at boosting peace and security, democratic governance, regional trade and economic integration, infrastructure development, and sustainable growth across the region.
