A group of politicians from the Northern Nigeria, including former Kano State governor, Ibrahim Shekarau, has resolved to hold a summit to deliberate on the political future of the region.

The politicians, who met in Abuja, on the aegies of the League of Northern Democrats, stated this in a communique issued after the parley.

The communique, which was jointly signed by the convener of the group, Umar Ardo and the protem secretary, Emmanuel Jime, stated that the LND also resolved to unite to North and reposition it as a leading force in the politics of the country.

Consequently, the the group said it would invite key stakeholders from the North, including all former Heads of State, former and serving vice presidents, former Senate Presidents, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, former security chiefs, amongst, to solicit their support for the initiative.

It noted “the LND resolved to prioritize the political unity of Northern Nigeria. Recognizing the diverse backgrounds and experiences within our ranks, we are committed to fostering a strong sense of community and solidarity. This unity will serve as the foundation for our efforts to reposition the North as a leading force in Nigeria’s political landscape.”

Shekarau, who is also the protem chairman, in a interview with journalists, at the sideline of the meeting, said the group concerned about the development of Northern Nigeria.

According to him “we came together to analyse and review the problem bedeviling the northern part of Nigeria. We said we need to embark on general societal reorientation, to enlighten the people on what is their basic challenges and their basic needs.

“It is political though. It s not about any person or any political party, and it is necessarily not about 2027. It is an all time issue. We want to produce a document, which is not about one year, two-year, 10-year issue.”

The former governor added “government should see the protest against bad governance as a challenge. The speech of President confirmed this, what we want to see is action. And it is not about the federal government. We are talking about the state government and local government.”
