Former Kaduna Central senator, Shehu Sani has praised the government of the United States for imposing sanctions on Sudan’s army chief, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his rival, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
In imposing the sanctions, the US said the army chief has shunned the path of negotiations, preferring to continue with a war that has killed tens of thousands and displaced millions.
This comes barely a week after al-Burhan’s rival in the two-year-old civil war, Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commander of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), also incurred sanctions from the US government.

In an X post, Sani expressed hope that the sanctions could help force peace negotiations and bring an end to the deadly conflict.
“The US has imposed sanctions on the Sudanese Army Chief Al-Burhan after similar actions against the RSF’s leader Hamdan.
“Now that the two leaders are fingered, it’s time for them make peace possible on the table.
“The people of Sudan have suffered enough,” Sani said.
