Shaibu hails Super Falcons on ‘Mission X’ accomplishment

The Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the National Institute for Sports (NIS), Philip Shaibu, has once again congratulated the Super Falcons for their superlative performance against the Lionesses of Morocco in the final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State said the Super Falcons have once again etched their name in African football history, clinching the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in a thrilling final on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

The NIS boss, who fulfilled his promise of going to Morocco to cheer on the Nigerian ladies in the final match showdown held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco, where Nigeria defeated the host nation after a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory.

The ex-Bendel Insurance player commended the technical crew of the Super Falcons, the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation, and the Mallam Shehu Dikko-led National Sports Commission for their efforts in achieving the set target of Mission X.

The win marks Nigeria’s 10th WAFCON title, extending their record as the most successful team in the tournament’s history.
