In a move geared towards raising the bar for the 2024 Best of Nollywood (BON) Awards, the organisers have officially unveiled legal practitioner and media administrator, Oluwafunmilayo Falade, as the newest member of its jury.
Falade, who is no stranger to the pan-Nigerian awards platform having previously paid her dues as a background film screener, will now sit on the main panel alongside notable names like Sandra Oyetayo and Blessing Obi to decide the fate of this year’s nominees.
Shedding light on the new appointment, the brains behind the BON Awards, Seun Oloketuyi, revealed that drafting Falade into the main jury was a strategic move to balance the panel with top-tier corporate expertise.

Oloketuyi explained that while she is not a filmmaker by profession, her eye for detail and excellence is exactly what the platform needs to maintain its credibility.
“Bringing Funmi on board is a deliberate action,” Oloketuyi noted. “We wanted a breath of fresh air—someone who isn’t a filmmaker but thoroughly understands excellence and professional expertise. If you pack a jury with only filmmakers, they tend to look at movies strictly through a technical lens. Funmi gives us that robust, everyday audience appeal but backs it up with a highly analytical mind. She can tear down a story’s structure and execution without any industry bias, and that is a massive plus for the platform.”
Indeed, Falade comes highly recommended, boasting a rich resume that cuts across various sectors. Aside from practicing law and being a public speaker, she has a solid footing in the entertainment business. At a point in her career, she served as at Kingdom Africa TV, where she mastered the inner workings of broadcast media. Furthermore, she also had a successful stint as a bank administrator, proving her mettle in corporate governance.
As Nollywood practitioners gear up for the 2024 edition of the awards, Falade’s wealth of experience in law, banking, and media administration will undoubtedly bring a new level of strict scrutiny to the judging process.
