The Senator representing Abia North Senatorial District, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has welcomed the First Lady of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, to Abia State on the occasion of her visit to the Akwete Weaving Cooperative Society in Akwete, Ukwa East Local Government Area.

Senator Kalu in a statement issued on Monday by his media office described the visit as a welcome opportunity to draw greater attention to the rich cultural heritage of Akwete weaving, one of Nigeria’s most treasured indigenous crafts. He noted that sustained support for the industry would not only preserve an important aspect of the nation’s cultural identity but also create economic opportunities for local artisans, especially women and young people.

The former Governor of Abia State expressed the hope that the First Lady’s engagement in Akwete would further encourage investments and initiatives aimed at promoting indigenous industries, empowering communities, and preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage.

Senator Kalu wished the First Lady a pleasant and successful visit to Abia State and commended all those working to showcase the state’s rich cultural assets and entrepreneurial potential.
