Senator Katung receives 317 PDP defectors into APC

From Noah Ebije, Kaduna

Senator Sunday Marshall Katung, representing the Kaduna South Senatorial District, on Monday received 317 grassroots politicians who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Kagarko Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The defectors, drawn from the Jere North, Jere South, and Iddah wards, were formally received at a well-attended ceremony in Jere. The delegation was led by Hon. AbdulRahman Jere, the former PDP Chairman in Kagarko Local Government.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Jere said their decision was anchored on the purposeful and results-driven leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Uba Sani, whose administrations have demonstrated a clear commitment to inclusion, infrastructure, and peace in Kaduna State.

Hon. AbdulRahman told the defectors that among the many projects attracted by Senator Katung to the Senatorial District are the Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia, and the Federal Medical Centre, Kafanchan—projects long demanded by Southern Kaduna but only delivered under the APC.

He added that Senator Katung’s legislative leadership and consistent grassroots engagement proved that the APC is the true vehicle for progress and political relevance.

“We have watched. We have compared. And we have chosen performance over promises. Senator Katung does not campaign and disappear; he delivers, he listens, and he stands with his people. That is why we are here today,” Hon. Jere declared to loud applause.

Receiving the new members, Senator Katung commended them for their courage and political clarity. He described the mass defection as a clear signal that Kagarko, and by extension Southern Kaduna, is aligning with governance that works.

“You have not just joined a party; you have joined a movement for results. You have chosen to be part of the team that is bringing federal universities, medical centres, roads, and real inclusion to our people,” Senator Katung said.

The Senator charged the defectors to return home and begin massive mobilisation for the APC across every household in Kagarko.

He directed them to collapse their structures fully into the APC at ward and polling unit levels and to become frontline ambassadors of the Renewed Hope agenda.

“Go to every compound, every street, every polling unit. Tell our people why we are here. 2027 will not be won on social media; it will be won door to door, voter to voter. The work starts now,” he charged.

“Kagarko has spoken today. The message is clear: Southern Kaduna rewards performance. We will not go back to empty politics. Together, we will consolidate these gains and deliver even more dividends of democracy,” he added.

Senator Katung reassured the people of Kagarko that their loyalty would be matched with more projects, deeper inclusion, and sustained federal and state attention.
