…As motorists lament poor state of highway

Former Senator representing Plateau North senatorial zone, Istifanus Gyang, has appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly to include the dualization of the Jos-Akwanga road in the 2025 budget.

His call came as motorists lament the poor state of the road, which is one of gateways from the Northeast through the North Central state of Plateau to the Southeast and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

No fewer than 18 people perished a fortnight ago along the Hawan Kibo hills end of the road when their bus collided with an oncoming lorry.

Senator Gyang in a statement signed by his Media Assistant, Barr. Evelyn Pulle, said that his appeal is a follow-up of his earlier pleas to the previous administration in the 9th Senate.

He said that the Akwanga-Jos Road, which is a strategic link to the North East, South East, and Abuja, is in a deplorable state of disrepair and therefore requires urgent intervention to relieve commuters of the current hardship of plying the road.

The senator added that the project would be an additional value to security along the entire axis of the road.

The statement read in part: “Whereas the Muhammadu Buhari administration is credited for undertaking the Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia-Makurdi Road project, it will be most welcome and historic for the Akwanga-Jos road dualization project to be executed by the Tinubu administration.”

Senator Gyang assured President Tinubu that undertaking the Akwanga-Jos Road project would be widely celebrated and greeted with joy and enthusiasm, a legacy that is worth the investment and commitment of his administration.
