The Tinubu National Solidarity Movement (TNSM) has urged the Senate to expedite the passage of the tax reform bills to address injustices in Nigeria’s tax system.
TNSM National Chairman Mohammed Sani Akwashiki made the call in Abuja, stating, “We call on the National Assembly to promptly approve the ongoing tax reform bills to address injustices in the current tax system.”
Akwashiki passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s administration, praising his leadership and economic reforms. He said Tinubu’s courage in implementing bold policies distinguishes him, noting, “This is the kind of leadership we need—someone with the courage to make bold decisions, determined to fix and reposition Nigeria.”
He emphasised northern support for Tinubu, stating, “The North is not against Bola Ahmed Tinubu. What he is doing is changing the lifestyle of ordinary northern Nigerians.” Describing Tinubu’s presidency as divine, he added, “God has decided to change Nigeria’s destiny through President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
Using a metaphor, Akwashiki said, “You can only stone a tree that bears fruit… President Tinubu carries fruit—his reforms are bearing results.” He noted TNSM’s mobilisation of coordinators across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, comprising citizens who see Tinubu as the remedy for national challenges.
The bills, including the Nigeria Tax Bill 2024, aim to streamline tax administration and exempt low-income earners from personal income tax.
