The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr. Nnanna Uzor Kalu as a commissioner in the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), representing the South-East geopolitical zone.
His confirmation followed the adoption of the report presented by the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, Cyril Fasuyi, during Tuesday’s plenary.
Dr. Kalu’s nomination had initially been stepped down in March after a petition was filed against him. At the time, the Senate confirmed 12 out of 13 nominees for the commission, excluding the South-East representative due to the unresolved petition.
While presenting the report, Fasuyi explained that the petition—filed by a former member of the NASC—had since been reviewed and resolved by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions.
He noted that based on the findings and recommendations of that committee, which were submitted on March 27, and subsequent referral to the Committee on Establishment and Public Service, the nominee was duly screened and found fit for the role.
“The committee recommends that the Senate confirm the nomination of Dr. Nnanna Uzor Kalu as commissioner representing the South-East in the National Assembly Service Commission,” Fasuyi said.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in his remarks, commended both committees for their swift handling of the matter.
“I thank the chairman of the establishment committee as well as the chairman of the ethics and privileges committee for ensuring that justice was done,” Akpabio said.
He congratulated Dr. Kalu on his confirmation and urged him to serve with a sense of duty, fairness, and commitment to national unity, in line with the Constitution. their faith in the electoral process
