The Senate has confirmed former House of Representatives member Hon. Ayo Omidiran as executive chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC).
Thirty-seven commissioners representing the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) were also confirmed.
The confirmation followed the adoption of the report by the Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs, submitted by its chairman, Allwell Heacho Onyesoh, during plenary on Thursday.
Onyesoh informed senators that all nominees passed the committee’s screening, having provided required documents—including CCB clearances, police reports, DSS vetting, and curriculum vitae—with no criminal petitions against them.
The Senate moved into the Committee of the Whole for a state-by-state review of nominees, which was adopted before reverting to plenary.
