From Tony John, Port Harcourt
There was heavy security presence yesterday at the HyperCity Malls owned by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike and his private residence along Ada-George Road, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Security was beefed up following the reaction by angry EndBadGovernance protesters, who were chanting that “HyperCity money is our money.”
Though, they could not near the minister’s residence because of heavy security presence, the aggrieved protesters maintained their chantings that it was Rivers money that he used in building the edifice.
The presence of policemen prevented the protesters from carrying out any ulterior plan to attack the private residence of the former governor or the HyperCity malls.
The aggrieved protesters were discouraged from invading and looting the facility because of heavy presence of policemen around the area.
Policemen cordoned off the area with an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC), thereby preventing them from going close to the walls of the house.
The entire stretch of Wike’s house is located directly opposite the Ada George Police Station making the protesters to abandon any ulterior motive.
The development caused tension in several parts of Port Harcourt and its environs, as the protesters staged protest simultaneously in different parts of the state capital.
However, security was beefed up across government facilities across the state capital to prevent breakdown of law and order.
