Three armed robbers were on Sunday eliminated by operatives of the Distress Response Squad (DRS), a special police unit created by Enugu State government to checkmate crime in the state capital.

In a video circulating on social media, the lifeless bodies of the criminal gang were seen lying inside their operational vehicle while some of their victims were seen narrating their ordeal in the hands of the robbers.

One of the victims said he was robbed of her belongings on Sunday at Ibuza street, while another victim said he was robbed of his phones and some amount of money by the same gang at Onu-Asata, still within Enugu metropolis the same day.

One other resident identified the hoodlums as having robbed him in front of Parklane Hospital earlier in the morning.

An unidentified policeman who witnessed the incident narrated how it unfolded thus, “We went to a restaurant to eat, as we were waiting for the food, we heard gunshots. We were wondering if the shooters were coming towards our direction.

“So I told my colleagues that we should leave. So as we were coming to this roundabout, the next thing we saw was that they started shooting at us. So, we pursued them. We followed them from that roundabout to the place.”

The state Police Command is yet to react to the incident as at the time of filing this report.
