A joint security patrol team operating in the Aguata sector of Anambra State has killed four suspected members of an armed gang in Orumba South Local Government Area.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement yesterday said the operation led by the police and took place during an armed confrontation along the Ogboji–Ajalli Road on the evening of June 23.
According to him, the security operatives recovered firearms, explosives and other incriminating items.
“During the operation, security operatives neutralised four members of the armed gang and recovered a cache of weapons, ammunition, explosive devices and other incriminating items,” he said.
Recovered exhibits included one General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) with 53 rounds of linked live ammunition, two AK-47 rifles, two magazines, 29 rounds of 7.62 x 39mm ammunition, 13 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, four undetonated Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), police camouflage uniforms and accessories.

Other items recovered were a white Toyota Sienna bus with registration number KJA 919 KH (Lagos), 10 Android phones, two feature phones, a laptop computer, a Point-of-Sale (POS) machine, two power banks, assorted charms, two live cartridges, ATM cards, a National Identification Card and a driver’s licence belonging to identified individuals.
Ikenga said the operation followed credible intelligence on the movement of heavily armed gang members using the Toyota Sienna vehicle.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that other members of the gang fled into nearby bushes with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.
“Consequently, the Joint Security Team has intensified operations in the area, including extensive combing and search efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects and recover additional weapons and operational equipment.”
He reiterated the command’s commitment, in collaboration with other security agencies, to sustaining intelligence-led operations aimed at protecting lives and property across the state.
