A total of nine bandits and one member of the local vigilance group were injured in a fierce battle between military-led security forces and bandits on Saturday night in BaKaji and Unguwar Garma in the Goron Dutse area of Shanono LGA of Kano State.
The heavily armed bandits invaded the area in large numbers at about midnight on Saturday and attempted to raid the area but were repelled by the joint security forces stationed there.
“They engaged the military for several hours in a gun duel,” a witness added.
The Chairman of the Shanono/Bagwai Community Security Forum, Yahya Bagobiri, also told journalists that “the bandits, after engaging in heavy gunfire with the military, somehow fled the area with about 40 cows. They also abducted six persons.”

According to him, “The military who killed the bandits took over their motorcycles, but the criminals sneaked back at about 5–6 a.m. on Sunday, opened heavy gunfire on the military, but still couldn’t penetrate the area.”
Bagobiri further lamented that “because they came in hundreds, they still took some six persons and 40 cows, but thanks to the military who returned heavy gunfire, killing nine of them and making them abandon their motorcycles.”
Bagobiri noted that “When they returned in the morning hours, they took away the dead bodies of their people who were killed.
“Let me commend the military who safeguarded the area and ensured that they stopped the bandits from causing any serious havoc. They deserve huge appreciation, because at that time, nobody could even come out from his home,” he said.
