The Chief Executive of Kontz Engineering International Europe Limited, Mustapha Kazeem Lusty, has identified steps which the government needs to take to overcome insecurity in the country.
He made this revelation while delivering his keynote address at the 2025 Annual Lecture and Awards Ceremony of the Crime Reporters Association of Nigeria (CRAN) held at Sheba Events Centre Ikeja-Lagos yesterday.
Speaking on the topic titled, “Harnessing Technological Innovations for Crime Prevention and Control in Nigeria,” Lusty called for a complete overhaul of the Nigerian security architecture through the deployment of advanced technology systems capable of detecting, preventing and disrupting crimes.
The six-steps are AI-powered early warning systems, a National Intelligent Vision Centre, encrypted community reporting platforms, deployment of surveillance drones and body-worn cameras, secure communication networks, and also to strengthen digital financial monitoring.
He further urged the government to know that technology alone cannot solve the root causes of insecurity in the country. Combining innovation with very strong reliable institutions and community engagement will strengthen the fight against terrorism, banditry and kidnapping which is going on in the country today, rather than the traditional approaches which are no longer enough to fight them.
He stated that localisation of technology, stronger forensic and cyber capabilities, joint intelligence dashboards, and transparent public security reporting were also needed in-order to sustain the reform.
He also expressed concern over the huge number of killings in the country since March this year as well as the number of people kidnapped in the last two weeks.
Lusty, therefore, called for caution and speedy action, stressing that citizens were being pushed towards self-help, which would not be good for the country.
Speaking also, the President of CRAN, Olalekun Olabulo, called on the government to deal decisively with bandits and terrorists, to achieve lasting solutions to the security issues in the country.
He called for political will as a way forward for us to solve the insecurity issues, and stated that the government must be sincere to solve these insecurity issues.
