The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja, Ignatius Kaigama, has said the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja has no plans to close churches in the archdiocese.
Kaigama stated this following the security alerts issued by the United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria and the British High Commission, Abuja.
Speaking with Saturday Sun, Kaigama said the archdiocese would only do so if the government, whose responsibility it is to secure the citizens, directed the church to do so.
“The government should be the one to tell us if we are secured or not secured. Up till now, since this rumour started going round, nobody has told me that we are so terribly insecure that we have to close places, banks or schools or Churches or so. Nobody has said that to me. So, it is not just the Church alone.
“We depend on the government to tell us what to do because they are able to measure the security situation and tell us what we need to do and what not to do,” Kaigama said.
