The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) of Nigeria is hosting a webinar on crypto assets on November 23 as part of activities for the 7th of World Investor Week (WIW).
The WIW is a global initiative of the International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO) to raise financial literacy among the general public.
Themed, “Investor Resilience, Crypto Assets, and Sustainable Finance”, it reflects the IOSCO Board’s top priorities in the current global market conditions.
SEC aims to enhance resilience in the Nigerian capital market while promoting investor education, enforcing protective regulations against fraud, and encouraging responsible investment practices.
One of the main activities of this year’s WIW is a webinar titled “Crypto Assets in the Context of Investor Education and Protection”, hosted by the SEC, in collaboration with some stakeholders and will feature experts sharing insights on crypto assets, investor protection, and public policy implications while examining the potential pitfalls for Nigeria.
According to the SEC, the global financial sector is increasingly embracing environmental sustainability. Retail investors, therefore, are opting to invest in ways that benefit the environment and this trend is expected to gain more momentum in the future.
The extensive discussions surrounding the advantages, challenges, and regulatory recommendations associated with sustainable investments have contributed to this shift.
The SEC invites the public to participate in the WIW activities and to visit its website for more information on investor education and protection. The SEC also urges the public to be vigilant and cautious when dealing with crypto assets.
