The traditional ruler of Ishi Ubomiri autonomous community in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State,Eze Emma Ekeh has boasted that the South east can turn around the dwindling agriculture misfortune in the country if majority of the business icons from the zone invest in agriculture.
Ekeh who disclosed this yesterday while celebrating his anual new yam festival in his community noted that that if agriculture is “aggressively embraced like other businesses of the Igbo” South east would become a major exporter of food to other States and Nigeria beyond.
The traditional ruler who is also the President of Imo Exporters called for stronger measures by the various tiers of government to revive and resuscitate the nation’s ailing agricultural sector.
He warned that continued neglect of such a critical sector would worsen the raging food crisis and also deplete the much needed resources for development.
“My community is famous for agricultural activities and as a traditional ruler ,I’m into active farming and if the various levels of government can sit up and accord stronger prominence on agriculture ,it will generate more revenue for the government and provide jobs for the youths and I believe that can start here in south east”. Ekeh said.
