The National Association of Seadogs, Pyrates Confraternity, Zanas Deck, has forged ties to raise awareness on the need to promote a healthy environment through proper waste disposal.
Capoon of Pyrates Confraternity, Zanas Deck, Mr Nnamdi Agulonu, stated this during the association’s Cleaner Environment Project held recently in Lagos.
The exercise which held at Bawala, Adaranijo by Pedro, Somolu Local government area and Census Market, Surulere Local Government area both in Lagos was aimed at increasing awareness on the importance of proper refuse disposal
The event which witnessed a large turn out of Seadogs turn out in large numbers also served as a form of environment advocacy.
Members of the Pyrates Confraternity while at both location cleaned the markets and their environs, distributed fliers and engaged members of the communities on the need to stop indiscriminate waste disposal.
The Seadogs also donated cleaning materials to traders and the market association.
Agulonu on the sidelines of the event explained that the Cleaner Environment Project was an advocacy strategy embarked upon to encourage cleanliness and discourage indiscriminate waste disposal in our environment.
Agulonu added that “the project was aimed at fulfilling the Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6) on Climate Change to encourage sanitation and hygiene.
This is one of the many interventions of the National Association of Seadogs. We have a proactive team that identifies challenges in our society.
Indiscriminate waste disposal is a crime many people have been arrested for. This is because of the danger it poses to us and our environment.
This is why we as a Deck deemed it fit that an advocacy to educate people the dangers of an unhealthy environment is of utmost importance.”
