Scores injured in Ebonyi community crisis

No fewer than 10 persons in Ndiche Umuomara village, Ndiagu Amagu in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, sustained varying degrees of injury in a crisis that erupted in the area. The victims include Nze Ukwa Nwankwo, Oduge Joseph,Ucha lgwe,Ukwa Simon,  Ejike Nwanchonu, among others.

Nwankwo Ukwa who is receiving his treatment at the Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Abakaliki (AE-FUTHA), narrated his ordeal. “A group of persons surrounded and descended on. They attacked me with all manner of weapons and inflicted injuries on me like. You can see that one of my eyes is badly affected. I can’t see with.

“The thugs made away with N120,000 I had in my pocket, my phone and other items. The thugs came with soldiers who supervised the attack on us.

“So many people were seriously injured during the attack. Some were tied hands back during the attack”, he said.

Ukwa said there was no problem in the community to have warranted the attack but suspected that attempt to remove village head of the community by some persons might have caused the incident.

The victims of the attack have petitioned the state police command to investigate and bring those behind the incident to book.

The community is in disarray following the incident.
