Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, will on Sunday, June 23, receive an award as the ‘Most Grassroots-Friendly Governor of the Year’ at the 10th anniversary of Elgee Info Media.
According to the Publisher/Chief Executive of Elgee Info, Samuel Akinyem, the ceremony is aimed at recognising Sanwo-Olu’s exceptional dedication to grassroots development.
He said the media organisation has acknowledged the governor’s significant contributions to rural development through his administration’s T.H.E.M.E.S.
He emphasised that such key infrastructure projects as the ongoing construction of roads in Ijake community, Oto-Awori Local Council Development Area, Ganiyu-Oduntan in Ikorodu, Ayubu-Bashorun Road in Ijede, Erelu-Amikanle Road in Alimosho, and Onishon Street in Ibeju-Lekki, exemplify the governor’s commitment to improving rural communities.
Akinyemi, in a recent statement, said: “In addition to infrastructure, Sanwo-Olu has facilitated the provision of 500kva transformers to various communities, including Odan-Ilogbo-Eremi PH1 in Olorunda, Owu CommunityDevelopment Associations (CDA) in Ibeju-Lekki, Gengenla CDA in Agunfoye, Ama Street in Ijede, and Agbede Omolaye in Ikorodu. These initiatives are part of his administration’s efforts to transform rural areas into semi-urban centres, thereby mitigating rural-urban migration.”
He said the event would also honour other distinguished individuals, including Saheed Ademola Elegusi, Kusenla III, Lukman Lawal, special adviser to the speaker of House of Representatives, and selected chairmen of councils in Lagos State. He added that numerous state officials and other eminent Nigerians would attend the occasion.
He said the event, which was originally scheduled for an earlier date, was postponed to allow more time to mourn the late Deputy Chief of Staff to the Governor, Gboyega Soyannwo, who was a close friend and ally of the governor.
“The anniversary event will feature an art exhibition, an audio-visual documentary highlighting Sanwo-Olu’s achievements, and the presentation of a comprehensive compendium, chronicling his administration’s accomplishments. Governor Sanwo-Olu, along with other notable grassroots achievers, will receive an award of merit.
“Additionally, the ceremony will include a lecture on grassroots governance by the Special Adviser to the Minister of Solid Minerals, Kehinde Bamigbetan, providing attendees with valuable insights into effective grassroots governance.
“Organisers are of the view that the recognition of the governor underscores his administration’s unwavering commitment to the development and transformation of Lagos State’s rural communities,” he said.
